Gratitude Highlight Reel

It's been a while since I written a gratitude highlight reel.

This week's gratitude in 5...4...3...2........

Kids + crayons = magic
E-man's run-in with his hockey net resulted in a black eye and a lot of attention from friends salivating for a great story. E-man's black eye is almost faded, resulting in less parental explaining to do. Michael is grateful for an exam appeals process. Lula had a great time with friends Saturday night; hanging out, eating crap, goofing off. KJ was included in the fun. It has finally stopped snowing. The cheap Easter chocolate is almost eradicated. Lula's directorial debut has been edited, burned and submitted for marks. Actors are not all temperamental creatures. KJ enjoyed a 10 day weekend. KJ goes back to school tomorrow. Our drugstore rewards points are reaching a rewarding level. A cure for ear wax has been discovered. Preparing for Investments Funds Licensing (if my brain doesn't implode) Mr. Serious is trying new foods. King is an awesome cleaner upper after playing. TippyToes said grace at dinner Friday "Thanks for food and sleepovers at Uncle Mike & Aunti Chelle's." KJ takes runner-up in her modelling show, securing some awesome bucks off the year end workshop. The fridge got cleaned out. Leftovers were managed spectacularly this week. Happy Birthday to my fabulous sister. Board games rock, so do potluck and red wine.  Michael took Mr. Serious, King, TippyToes and E-man to the park to run off some steam and give me time to blow off some steam. The grand opening of the grocery store returns Lula to normal. E-man gets a RipStick. We never need to worry whether he's going to wear his helmet or not, helmets are like seatbelts. $10 Bluenotes jeans. Michael gets a roadtrip this week. Advil can be purchased in bulk. Twitter is not that difficult (I think). KJ's friend came through surgery ok and is on the mend. Air mattresses are indispensable.

Looking back over it; it's been a really great week! Not without a few clouds and showers but I can't remember how much rain we got.

Spend some moment everyday in reflection of gratitude and happiness. Even if the time found is standing in line for coffee...use is wisely.

Thursday...Your Turn @ the Table

So, how's your week so far? Mine started off a little off balance (to use gentle phrasing) but there has been a steady improvement since I first stumbled out of bed on Monday. Yes, I said Monday, I know that the week technically begins on Sunday but let's face it, that's not the arithmatic of the 'everyday' person. We are mostly concerned with counting the space between Sunday & Saturday. Those two days are like the 'free' spot on the BINGO card; you don't have to wait for them to be called, you just mark them and smile because you didn't have to work for it!

So with a steady upward trend in my forcast I have a lot to be grateful for...
  • All 6 kids ate fish for dinner last night and LOVED IT!
  • The sun is shinning beautifully today!
  • I've consumed just the right amount of coffee and every ounce was hot at the time of enjoyment!
  • I get to work with my transplanted friend tomorrow, oh how we miss you Shelley!
  • The waining snowbank is wained right out of sight!
  • Lula's making moves to secure her future in psychology.
  • Eman's increasing his "Cool Big Kid" factor by 1 million!
  • KJ doing the "I get my phone back" dance!
  • Michael's making dinner reservations for our Anniversary (hint, hint, HINT...not too late to call.)
I could go on but I'd rather hear from you. What's your Gratitude? Share it with us by posting a comment and then hey, why not send this post to a friend and ask them to take a turn at the table.

Keeping The Space. Keeping The Faith

It's been quiet around here, hasn't it? You know what they say when the streets are empty..."there must be something going on at the playhouse." Ok, you've probably never heard that before. Some sayings are in my head, planted there by my Gran or a vision of what she would say in any given situation. I kind of like this one.

There have been no gratitude updates this week, no amateur snapshots of toilet paper rolls or kids camped in sheet forts. Posts that shine light on the fun side of everyday chaos are still locked inside my head, (if you need a grateful for today... go ahead use this if you like. I promise my feelings will not be hurt.) The blog has been neglected, abandoned, along with the laundry, in favour of handling family crisis. Actually one of us is in "crisis" the rest of us are in a state of emergency.

This morning I ran out of underwear. I should have thought while I was shuffling, updating, arranging, rearranging, scheduling and rescheduling, I should have thought to reassign laundry duty. I should have but I didn't and clean underwear is pretty important in my books. This morning I'm catching up. The washer is humming, I'm drinking coffee and checking in with my gratitude. I should have re-assigned someone to keep "The Space" updated. Keeping a grateful mindset is as emotionally significant to our family as clean boxers.

There have been great moments of gratitude this week... Michael's months of study concluded this week with his final exam on Saturday

Eman earned the last $10 he need to buy the Pokemon Black and White game. I understand that this is actually 2 separate games. He bought the Black, he'll need alot more snow to get the White version too. Lula has been spending time with friends and new shoes, KJ has been enjoying spontaneous pizza parties at school and new shoes.

I know there have been more gratefuls this week for my family. While I finish up the laundry this morning I'm going to hand over the laundry soap and the password and ask them to keep The Space Between Raindrops updated with our daily gratefuls. Now more than anytime before us this space is crucial.

As for my greatest Gratitude this week. It is the wee hours of Thursday morning that found me in the emergency department with my brother. He looked at me and said "Turn this into a Gratitude." He doesn't know it but I probably have never been more grateful than at that very moment. He also doesn't know yet but that exact moment will be the very one he will be most grateful for. For now, he works to get to that day, we work to support him and when he comes to me and wants to talk about those hours I think I'll lend him the password and ask him to share a Gratitude.

Until then there is only faith.

Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark, in the hopeless swamps of the approximate, the not-quite, the not-yet, the not-at-all.  Do not let the hero in your soul perish, in lonely frustration for the life you deserved, but have never been able to reach. Check your road and the nature of your battle.

The world you desired can be won. It exists, it is real, it is possible, it is yours.
